Thank You for coming along with us on our journey.
We have just completed three great Introduction to Beekeeping classes that allowed people to see what it might take to start their beekeeping adventure. I would like to thank Growing Veterans in Lynden for fully supporting us with space to host our events and where we will establish our apiary. Next, I would like to acknowledge our founding members for all of their support and ideas to make this happen. A special recognition goes out to GRuB and Healing Through Hives for backing the education program for all participants. Please consider donating time or money to any of these worthy organizations.
North Cascade Beekeepers we have received a couple of hives that will be used for education purposes through a generous donation from the Stephanie and Jesse Barmann. This will surely get us off to a great start. Our Beginner Beekeeping Certification classes will begin on Mar 1st. Many people have signed up and may need a second class, perhaps later in the year. Classes will be conducted along Washington State Beekeepers (WASBA) guidelines. Everyone is welcome to attend events at Growing Veterans.
A separate component of the group is the Cascade Queen Rearing Group for those who are serious about trying different methods of starting locally adapted queens all the way through the start of a new hive. Our hope is to not rely on queens imported from other parts of the country that may not thrive in our region.
We are creating a swarm list for those interested in collecting bees that end in places they shouldn’t be and likely won’t survive the year. Get in touch with us if you’re interested.
We are always open to ideas to make our group better, more inclusive and educational. Let us know your thoughts.
